ESEC 405: Introduction to Secondary School Culture

What were your results for the Implicit Association Test (IAT)? You should take the www.implicit.harvard.edu on Race IAT and submit your results with the assignment. What are some behaviors of students that may have a negative influence on you? Who owns the problem? How can you change your first impression of students? How can you change your attitude towards students on the unconscious level? What attitudes do you think that you may project to your students? How can you teach your students to be more aware and open of other students? Can you teach your students to give value, status and importance to their colleagues?

ESEC 407: Secondary School Teaching

  • Four mini lessons using the CSUSB Lesson plan format for each of the 4 models of instruction.
  • Survey of your school and include all data on the school from California Department of Education (Visit Data and Statistics and look up school performance, school identification, school staffing, student demographics, student health and support and technology for your school site.

ESEC 413: Language Interaction in the Classroom

  • Field Experience/Observation #2 – English learners, Their Schools and Communities This activity requires you to observe a SDAIE designated classroom, the community context, and school level services for English learners.

ESEC 410: Adolescent Development & Learning

ESEC 506 ENGLISH

  • Written lesson plan for teaching literature response or literary analysis
  • Written lesson plan for teaching oracy, poetry, or drama.
  • Written summary of a research article on teaching grammar or written lesson plan for teaching grammar or vocabulary
  • Written lesson plan for teaching writing, including a holistic grading scale

ESEC 506 World Languages:

Unit Plan: Develop a Unit Plan for 10-15 days of instruction. Include detailed lesson plans for the first five days. Prepare multiple copies of the plan so that each of your classmates can have a copy. Use the guidelines from the CSUSB Single Subject Handbook and those provided in class. Include two quizzes or other assessment tools that you construct yourself (i.e. not quizzes or tests made by the textbook publisher.) Prepare a bulletin board that you can use as part of your unit plan. Provide an outline and examples of exercises you will use to teach the four skills and culture in an integrated fashion. 150 points.
