Rules for Computer Usage

For your information and well being we ask that all students and faculty read the following in regards to computer lab operation rules and guidelines.

All students must have a valid CSUSB ID to use the computer Lab. A student assistant may ask you and if you don't have one you may be asked to leave.

  1. Please turn off all equipment before leaving for the night. This is something that is very important in keeping our systems in top shape. Equipment running all night long and through the weekend won't last very long. Make sure that your computers, printers and monitors are turned off. It is very important to turn off Projection Equipment as the bulb is expensive and very difficult to replace.
  2. Lock all doors and arm the security system. All doors must be shut and locked with the alarm system armed each and every night. Security is very important to us all and the alarm system is there for a purpose, to keep those who would abuse our computers out! If you need a security code, contact Thinh Ly at ext. 75624.
  3. Pick up after yourself If you have any printouts left by students, please dispose of it properly by putting it in the recycling bin. Furniture must be returned to where it was moved from. If you're having a discussion group, please return the chairs to their original positions after the discussion is complete. There is no food or drinks allowed in the labs at any time. If you are seen eating or drinking you will be asked to go outside the room to finish. This is to protect our systems from being damaged by an accident.
  4. Report any computers that are having problems. Please be sure to leave notes on any computers that are not working. Please leave notes on computers that are missing software or are having software problems. Leave any notes on the white board concerning other needs such as toner, paper, or repair requests.
  5. We ask that all that use these facilities respect the employees and other students. Also respect your computer, remember it is just a tool, it does not know what you want until you tell it what to do. Common sense will prevail in any situation that may arise.
  6. ENFORCED University computer usage policies We will not tolerate any adult material (Pornography) being viewed on any computer station in our labs. This is not only our policy but also a campus policy, which will be enforced. You can view these materials on your own time at your own home. If a student or employee sees you tampering in any way with the computer software or hardware, you will be kicked out of the lab. Hacking the software or modifying the operating system is a serious offense. This includes changing the wallpaper, color scheme and adding or deleting programs. Please leave the configurations alone and if there is a problem you can report it to an employee.
  7. PRINTING ONLY for students CURRENTLY enrolled in College of Education courses. All other students are required to abide by the printing procedures as used in the main computer labs in the Pfau Library. Proof of enrollment is required. If a printer is out of paper or toner do NOT try to fix it yourself, inform personnel or your instructor. This will help to prolong the life of the printer. Do not abuse your printing privileges. If we see you printing more than is suitable, i.e. thesis/project or even entire websites, we will ask you to stop. If you continue to abuse your printing privileges, we will ask you to leave and use the main computer labs in the Pfau Library. There have been continuous abuses in printing in the past year, we do not wish to create an unfriendly environment, but do abide by our requests.

All of these rules will be enforced by the student assistants and by the faculty as well. It is possible that some offenses may result in disciplinary action by the campus. You may complain all you want to the student assistant but they are doing the job they are paid for and that is to help students with problems and keep the labs running. Please use the reporting forms on the walls to list complaints or encouragement.

These are our main concerns here in the College of Education computer labs. If you have any others please let us know.
