The Doctor of Education Degree Program

The Doctorate in Educational Leadership is a dynamic program designed to prepare educational leaders for schools, community colleges/higher education, and related areas within education. Our mission is to develop reflexive scholar-practitioner educational leaders who are committed to promoting equity, social justice, and transformation. This 2 and one quarter to 3-year cohort-based program meets the needs of full-time professionals in the field. Courses are conveniently offered twice per week (generally one week night where students meet at either CSUSB or PDC and the course is video-streamed, and one Saturday where all students meet at CSUSB). Some courses are offered as on-line hybrid. Students are encouraged to identify a field-based problem of practice for their dissertation research that is relevant to their institution or community. Currently, enrolled students are PK-12, community college/higher education, district, and county teachers, counselors, social workers, administrators, directors, and managers who aspire to engage in practices related to educational equity, social justice, and transformation.

Curriculum

Completion of the Ed.D. Degree requires 94 quarter units. Most students will complete the program in three years. Students generally take two courses every quarter (including two or more courses each summer). While students work on the dissertation from the beginning of the program, in the third year students focus on completing the dissertation. Students are able to complete the dissertation aspects of their program along with their coursework which would enable them to graduate in 2 years and one quarter.
