The Doctor of Education Degree Program
The Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership is a program framed around questions of equity, ethics, and social justice to bring about solutions to complex problems of practice. The program is designed to prepare educational leaders with the knowledge base and skills to lead reform efforts that result in improved student outcomes and educational transformation, particularly for our Inland Empire region.
This 3-year cohort-based program meets the needs of full-time professionals in the field of education, either PreK-12 or Community College/Higher Education careers. Courses are conveniently offered on weekends, Friday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Students attend every other weekend in Fall and Spring semesters, and every weekend during the Summer semester.
Students commonly attend Friday sessions through streaming (Zoom); and are expected to attend in-person Saturday sessions at the main CSUSB San Bernardino Campus. Students are encouraged to identify a field-based problem of practice for their dissertation research that is relevant to their educational institution or community.
Curriculum
Completion of the Ed.D. degree requires 60 semester units. Most students will complete the program in three years. Courses are conveniently offered with the executive model. Each course is held on Friday evening and Saturday morning for four weeks. Students generally take two courses (one class at a time) every semester (including each summer). While students work on the dissertation from the beginning of the program, in the second and third year students focus on completing the dissertation. Accreditation
California State University, San Bernardino is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The College of Education is also accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at CSUSB is also accredited by WASC.
